Gathered Top Pocket
By Beverly Chapman

Tired of regular old patch pockets?

Try these pockets - great for a robe because the elasticized pockets will help keep objects in place so you can find them later!

  • 1. Cut out pocket pattern
  • 2. Finish top edge of pocket if desired
  • 3. Fold top edge to wrong side by 1/2" (1.25 cm) and stitch close to finished edge, forming casing (number 1 on pattern piece)
  • 4. Thread elastic through casing (7" (17.75 cm) of 1/4" (6 mm) wide elastic)
  • 5. Stitch across ends of elastic to anchor gathering (number 2 on pattern piece)
  • 6. Fold under outer edges of pocket 1/4" (0.6 cm), press if necessary (number 3 on pattern piece)
  • 7. Place pocket in desired location, pin and baste in place if desired
  • 8. Edge-stitch pocket in place
