Fun Summer Accessories

By Kathy Grondin

No time for major sewing projects this summer? Update your look by adding a few quick-to-sew accessories to your wardrobe.

For those cool summer nights, stitch up a poncho using our 605U0 pattern. The pattern is simple and can be made from just about any fabric. Try a lacy, open-weave fabric to accent a cool summer evening, or use a pretty silky print to make a statement. Come fall, stitch it up again in a cozy fleece fabric.

New Look’s 6533N1 offers a caplet and purse accessories and 6533N0 has a jacket perfect to pair over summer fashions for those special occasions.

A coordinated bag is a fun way to accent any outfit. Use fabrics from the scrap bag or shop for fun and funky prints to add a punch to your look. New Look 6610N3 is a quick-to-sew bag. Ribbon acts as both the trim and the handles. Purchased purse handles or straps could be used. If you like organization, add pockets inside or out. Simplicity 4356S3 is a round shape bag with a fabric rosette. The pattern calls for fleece, but denim could work nicely too.

Hint – if you are having a difficult time finding the fashion rings that pattern 6610N3 calls for look at the home decorating department. Decorative curtain rings will make a great substitute. Just remove the clips!

The stores are geared up for back-to-school with pencils, glue, notebooks and fashions but it is still summer by my calendar. So take a little time to add to your summer fashions and enjoy sewing again.
